Oral Sedation Participation Assignment

  1. Compose or revise your patient’s medical history form for your office.
    1. Review the changes you made and why.
    2. Review the deletions and why.

For example: Have you had any ophthalmic surgery recently?

  1. Compose a medical evaluation/consult form to send to your patient’s primary care physician to review your dental treatment needs.

Be sure to state intended ‘dosages’ of your intended med’s in mg’s. not ‘carpules’.

  1. Outline and present a clinical staff meeting/review which educates and alerts your staff to the care and attention to pertinent details appropriate for treating and monitoring the sedated/anxiolytic patient in your practice.
    1. Be prepared to discuss with the group your discussions and questions the staff had with this type of treatment.
    2. Discuss what you are comfortable with delegating to the staff and what is in line with your staff bylaws.
    3. Discuss fears your staff had/has and how these were addressed.

Bring all three of these ‘forms/reports’ in either paper form to share with the group, or available to be displayed on powerpoint, or other screen presentation.

Review the most ‘eventful’ sedation/anxiolysis case you managed in the next six months of care.  Be prepared to discuss the untoward events, or the desired outcome that made the appointment easy for the patient, and reduced stress for you and your staff.

This may be either a good sedation appointment or a difficult case.  Document pre op conditions, review their existing physical status, medications to treat these conditions, possible interactions, with your sedation or pain med’s.

Presentations will be held on Saturday evening, April 26th, following the Spring Fast Track meeting on ‘Digital Photography in the Dental Practice.’
