Pedo assignment Indiana AGD Spring 2006  

  1. Document with photos, radiographs, clinical charting of patient symptoms and detailed dental history of a trauma case age 3—20 y.o.   Include history of injury, workup, and treatment, prognosis including future treatment options given to patient or parent.  Provide treatment rationale, (in multiple follow up regimens give status of pulp and periodontium).  Cite reference if used i.e. Andreasen, etc. 

 

As per lecture, trauma may include:  coronal fractures; crown-root fractures; root fractures;

luxations—lateral, intrusive, extrusive. 

  1. Document restorative treatment of 3 primary teeth or 2 primary and 1 permanent tooth.

Please use pre-op, peri-op and post-op photos, radiographs.  Give significant medical/ dental history and any symptomology of treated teeth.  Cite restorative material used rationale for use and provide supportive literature for use.  If direct restorative used be constructively critical of material, cite shortcomings and traits you would desire in ideal pedo material. 

  1. Document treatment using SSC or polycarb crown (anterior) again using pre, peri and post-op photos and radiographs.  Give pre-op dental history (pulpotomy, pulpectemy) any significant tooth symptoms and any post-op follow up. 

 

  1. Discuss your method of pedodontic patient behavior management.  E.g.  Pharmacology used, or ratio of pharmacology (nitrous) or 100% non-pharmacologic mgt.  Give your rationale for your regimen.  Also assess your perceived success rate in relative numbers such as 95%succes rate, etc.  Cite two cases treated in your office for routine pedo dental care.  You can use photos of clinical setting etc.  or just give verbal case presentation.  Cite effectiveness in each case in relative numbers as to degree of patient cooperation, parent co-cooperativeness and satisfaction with your style of pedo mgt. etc.   Again, provide rationale as to why this method is effective in your office. Be constructively critical of your success and discuss drawbacks to technique.
