Pedo assignment Indiana AGD Spring 2006
- Document with photos, radiographs, clinical charting
of patient symptoms and detailed dental history of a trauma case age 3—20
y.o. Include history of injury, workup, and treatment, prognosis including
future treatment options given to patient or parent. Provide treatment
rationale, (in multiple follow up regimens give status of pulp and
periodontium). Cite reference if used i.e. Andreasen, etc.
As per lecture, trauma may
include: coronal fractures; crown-root fractures; root fractures;
luxations—lateral, intrusive,
extrusive.
- Document restorative treatment of 3 primary teeth or 2
primary and 1 permanent tooth.
Please use pre-op, peri-op and
post-op photos, radiographs. Give significant medical/ dental history and any
symptomology of treated teeth. Cite restorative material used rationale for use
and provide supportive literature for use. If direct restorative used be
constructively critical of material, cite shortcomings and traits you would
desire in ideal pedo material.
- Document treatment using SSC or polycarb crown
(anterior) again using pre, peri and post-op photos and radiographs. Give
pre-op dental history (pulpotomy, pulpectemy) any significant tooth symptoms
and any post-op follow up.
- Discuss your method of pedodontic patient behavior
management. E.g. Pharmacology used, or ratio of pharmacology (nitrous) or
100% non-pharmacologic mgt. Give your rationale for your regimen. Also
assess your perceived success rate in relative numbers such as 95%succes
rate, etc. Cite two cases treated in your office for routine pedo dental
care. You can use photos of clinical setting etc. or just give verbal case
presentation. Cite effectiveness in each case in relative numbers as to
degree of patient cooperation, parent co-cooperativeness and satisfaction
with your style of pedo mgt. etc. Again, provide rationale as to why this
method is effective in your office. Be constructively critical of your
success and discuss drawbacks to technique.
